Lagavulin 16

£85.00

A popular Islay malt, rich and exhibiting those iodine, peat-smoke tones famously assoicated with the region.

The longer cask maturation rounds this into a fairly elegant malt, with oak-spiced tones, sea salt and smoked tea.

Famed on Islay, the Lagavulin distillery was established in 1816 and is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, with evidence of illicit distilling dates as far back as 1742. Since Lagavulin has become known for the rich, peaty flavors characteristic of Islay whiskies, and this release, matured in a combination of American oak bourbon and sherry casks, brings an additional depth from the cask.

A powerful, smoky aroma with notes of iodine, peat and seaweed. Hint of sherry and dried fruits on the nose, with rich oak spice hitting the palate. Full-bodied and pungent in flavour, sweet fruity notes balanced with the charcoal, smoked oak and medicinal character.
